Whilst I can appreciate your frustration at getting potentially unhelpful information. There is no reason to belittle someone based on their title. Remember that MVP’s are admins, just like you. I can’t speak for Eric, but for myself, it was to give back to the community that helped me when I was a wee young sysadmin running exchange I understand the frustration of working with VDI servers and clients myself having been dealing with it since Lync My understanding is one of the main reasons the placeholder is on a specific version is because of the Office rollout strategy. With that version being the “safest” version to deploy regardless of tenant status and VDI plugin build.

None of which can be determined by a simple URL redirect. Despite flags being set to remove features some weirdness still occurs. Your best bet then is going to be determining the build number based on an SOE machine in your environment, then downloading that version using the links Eric advised before. As I hinted to before. Which obviously won’t work in a packaged VDI image.

Both versions install but there is no clear instruction from MS as to what version would be recommended. Thanks, Dan. I think either will work, but I would go 64 bit if you have a 64 bit OS. There is an outlook plugin for Teams, but I think either will work.

Even with the machine level MSI, there is no good way to uninstall. At least it did for me with Teams 1. To be cautious i also do the following. Since if you uninstall Teams with the Update. Microsoft Teams MSI Installer.

Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support. Watch the following session to learn about the benefits of the Windows Desktop Client, how to plan for it and how to deploy it: Teams Windows Desktop Client. Bulk deployments are useful because users don’t need to download and install the Teams client manually.

Rather, Teams will be deployed to computers and then auto-launch the first time users sign into a computer. We recommend that you deploy the package to computers rather than a specific user. By targeting computers, all new users of those computers will benefit from this deployment. Teams can also be distributed to your organization as part of Microsoft Apps for enterprise. Download the MSI that you want to install on computers in your organization.

The x86 architecture bit or bit Teams supports is independent of other Office apps installed on a computer. If you have bit computers, we recommend installing the bit Teams MSI even if the computer is running a bit version of Office. Install the bit version of Teams only on bit operating systems. If you try to install the bit version of Teams on a bit operating system, the installation won’t be successful and you won’t receive an error message. MSI files can’t be used to deploy updates.

The Teams client will auto-update when it detects a new version is available from the service. To re-deploy the latest installer, use the process of redeploying MSI described below.

If you deploy an older version of the MSI file, the client will auto-update except in VDI environments when possible for the user. If a very old version gets deployed, the MSI will trigger an app update before the user is able to use Teams. We don’t recommended that you change the default install locations as this could break the update flow. The MSI is not used to deploy updates, the client will auto-update when it detects a new version is available from the service. This does not change the cloud-based update mechanism.

MY response was written in a moment of extreme frustration, leading to a tone that is regrettable, for which I apologise to you and Eric Marsi. I take on board your point about the responses being done by people in their own time. MY frustration was that my original post had not been read properly; my query was regarding MSI binaries not EXE ones, and was regarding the aka. Unfortunately our VDI deployment is ‘on premises’ and not in Azure, so your link is not strictly relevant to our configuration.

My Teams client on my PC was updated from version 1. Eric Marsi where or how did you find this version number? Exactly my problem. The links in my OP are supposed to be ‘placeholder’ links to be able to download the latest available version.

As per Microsoft’s own instructions to update this, you first have to uninstall the previous version. That does not sound like automatically updating to me. You also provided a version-specific link to a. EXE binary to download, when I’d specifically asked for the latest version of the. MSI binary. It is all very well posting a link to the latest version at that very moment, but as I said to Massimo above, the whole point of the aka.

I can only assume it wasn’t meant that way when it was originally written and has translated poorly to text or you were super frustrated at the time. Whilst I can appreciate your frustration at getting potentially unhelpful information. There is no reason to belittle someone based on their title.
